The chilly cheese guys

Aside from beef and beer I’ve got a real soft spot – or many soft spots if you catch my drift – for cheese. I love cheese. I love it in the block and shredded form. I love it in the crumbly form. I love it in the neat little individually wrapped slices. I even love it in the canned “whiz” form. But enough about how much I love cheese.

Schnucks Markets in St. Louis has customers who love cheese so much it prompted the grocery chain to construct a large temperature and humidity controlled cheese room at its flagship store in suburban Des Peres.

The 335-square foot room stays a constant 50 degrees and offers complimentary coats to browsing patrons. Of course I don’t need a coat because I’m from Ohio, and 50 degrees in Ohio means barbecues and beach cruisers.

Offering everything from Mascarpone, Gouda and Feta to traditional American, Cheddar and, my personal favorite, Bleu (makes me feel European), you can’t swing a Schnucks recycled shopping bag without hitting something delectable. Of course there are plenty of wine bottles in this special room, so swinging around anything might not be the best idea – for you or the Schnucks cleanup staff.

By the way, if you are into beef and beer, like yours truly, Schnucks offers all Certified Angus Beef ® brand products and one of the best beer selections of any grocery I’ve visited.

If you’re ever in St. Louis, swing by the Des Peres store on Manchester Road and be prepared for a cheesy time (I mean that in the best way possible).

But remember, if you choose to wear a coat in the cheese room I may make fun of you.
