If you’re a fan of the Certified Angus Beef ® brand you may have already heard about the upcoming challenge airing this Saturday on CBS. If not, let me fill you in. The Cortes Family has a love for food that stems from their Puerto Rican heritage and family gatherings. Unfortunately, some of those ‘family favorites’ aren’t as healthy as they could be.
Enter Chef Keoni Chang. Chef Keoni hails from Hawaii where he’s the chef for grocer Foodland Hawaii. He set out to be a graphic designer way back when but later turned his designer’s eye to beautiful food. This weekend, the talented chef will transform the Cortes family’s stew recipe with fresh, healthy ingredients and premium beef. And even better, he’ll compete against Recipe Rehab chefs (and he used to work for one of them!) to see who can create the family’s new favorite.
“My favorite dishes are braises and stews,” Keoni said. “I love them because you can usually take a less expensive cut of meat and create something extremely flavorful. That being said, I’ve had my share of hankerings for a one-inch Certified Angus Beef ® brand ribeye, seasoned with Hawaiian salt and dry-seared in a screaming-hot, cast iron skillet.”
Chang is Hawaiian through-and-through but he goes straight to hearty, American classics when he names his favorites. And the question is, will his tastes of paradise be enough to win over the Cortes family and Recipe Rehab viewers? Tune in and see!
